“The Big Bang Theory” gets lots of love for its 100th episode, which aired on Thursday night, January 19. Not only did the series top “American Idol” in adults demo, but it also received thumbs-up from J.J. Abrams despite its take on mocking his blockbuster movie “Star Trek”.
In an interview on the red carpet of 2012 Producers Guild Awards, co-creator Bill Prady told TVLine that the director gave positive response when they asked for his approval. “We got a message back immediately from Zach [Quinto] and J.J. saying they loved the idea,” he said.
The scene, which contains the “Star Trek” reference, features Sheldon Cooper receiving the cardboard cutout of Zachary Quinto’s Mr. Spock, instead of that of Leonard Nimoy which he originally ordered. Getting upset with the mix-up, the geeky physicist told Spock to “suck it.”
Prady dished on the story behind the outing, “In order to use that prop, which is a cardboard cutout of Spock [as seen] in the new movie series, you needed three approvals. You needed Paramount [Pictures], and you had to get Zach to approve it and you had to get J.J. Abrams to approve it.”
The other thing they included in the approval request was the “suck it” line. He recalled, “I [told them], ‘We need to, at some point, let Sheldon begin accepting there is a new Spock in the world, and we’re going to have him start by not liking it at all. So if you’re game, and you let us use it, we will begin the process of him coming to grips with Zachary Quinto as Spock’.”

After crowning John Rhode as a winner last season, “The Biggest Loser” returned with “No Excuses” on Tuesday, January 3. Unlike the previous seasons which paired up mother-daughter, father-son, brother-sister and husband-wife in one team, there would be no partners to win the champion title and the $250,000 grand prize this time around.
Aside from the twist, the premiere of the “No Excuses” season also saw an elimination at the beginning of the show. One team of two was sent packing even before they entered the ranch. The first challenge to survive this phase was to finish a 40-yard dash, and it had the blue, orange, brown, and yellow team finishing first.
In the second round, the rest of the team had to finish a puzzle each. Gray, red, purple, and green team did well, leaving the the pink and aqua team to battle each other for the ninth and last place in the ranch. They were challenged to stand on barrels and hold onto each other for as long as they could. The first team who fell off was automatically out of the game.
Daphne, from the aqua team, lost her balance during this challenge, resulting in her and her brother Adrian to go home. When the two thought they had completely lost their chance in the competition, they were informed that they would be given another chance if they could lose 50 pounds as a team in one month.
Although they had gone through the early elimination phase, those stepping their feet into the ranch still had to survive another ax. They were sent to the workout session with the assistance from Bob and Dolvett. After the weigh-in, it’s revealed that the latter’s team beat the former’s team. At the end, it’s Ben who left the camp. He said he had learned all he needed to learn.

“The Big Bang Theory” will mark its milestone with an episode different from previous outings. In the 100th episode which is set to air January 19, 2012, the cast and the crew will do something that’s never done before by going back to the pilot.
“We wanted to go back to the relationship which started the series, which was Leonard’s attraction to Penny and it was a sweetness to it and it’s where we started and it felt like we’d come full circle on the 100th and explore it again,” co-creator/executive producer Chuck Lorre said at an event celebrating the 100th episode in Los Angeles.
Lorre admitted that the installment is “a little risky.” Meanwhile, another executive producer Steve Molaro explained to The Hollywood Reporter that the episode will “be exploring Leonard and Penny’s relationship and where they’ve been and the possibilities of where they can go in the future.”
Mayim Bialik who plays Amy calls the outing a “really quirky episode” that is “breaking the format and breaking a little of our standard format.” She reasoned, “It’s a little bit different and they’re mixing it up a little bit.”
Agreeing that the episode is different than any other outings, Kaley Cuoco said, “This 100th episode is a real departure for us creatively.” The episode may take fans to think a bit when watching it as the Penny depicter gushed, “It’s kind of a brain-teaser a bit; you don’t know what’s going on until then end. The end comes and then you realize it all makes sense.”
Calling it an homage to the pilot, Simon Helberg had other words to describe the said episode. “It is its own thing; it’s a simple story that’s not quite what it seems with some twists and turns in it,” the actor who plays Howard elaborated. “It’s like how little we’ve traveled in five years and how slow the growth is for these guys but still how interesting they are to watch.”
To give more hint, the official synopsis to the 100th episode titled “The Recombination Hypothesis” states, “Everything might change when Leonard offers Penny a spur of the moment invitation to a romantic dinner for two.”
